Jazz on the Rocks
Join the Civic Music Association for its season kick-off event Jazz On the Rocks from 5-7 p.m., September 8, at the Cosmopolitan Lounge at the Suites of 800 Locust Street, Downtown Des Moines. The event will provide general information about Jazz and the upcoming season headliner Esperanza Spalding. This event is free and open to the public, and will feature local artist Roxi Copland who is the featured speaker well as performing pieces of her own. There also will be free appetizers and drink specials. The Civic Music Association is a leading cultural organization, with a long tradition, dedicated to enriching people's lives that provides a World Class, provocative musical experience in an intimate atmosphere. | Rock & Toss - Benefiting Central Iowa Shelter & Services
Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 11th and come out to Simon Estes Amphitheater for Rock & Toss benefiting Central Iowa Shelter & Services! This inaugural event includes a bean bag tournament and a free rock concert beginning at 1:00 pm. Top three places in the tournament will win CASH PRIZES! $200 for 1st, $100 for 2nd and $50 for 3rd! Bands include Autumn Project, SUPERCHIEF, Deep Sleep Waltzing, Christopher the Conquered, Shades, The Druids, Cirrus Minor and Johnny Reeferseed and the High Rollers! Also the Iowa vs. Iowa State game will be shown in our game tent! The mission is to provide free shelter and meals to homeless adults regardless of physical or emotional conditions, and to facilitate their move toward self-sufficiency. | Stepout to Stop Diabetes
It's not too late to sign up to "StepOut" to STOP DIABETES with the American Diabetes Association on September 12! This year's annual walk will be held at Gray's Lake, starting at 2:00 p.m.. The walk will include team prizes, raffles, and food. The rate of people diagnosed with diabetes is reaching epidemic-level highs. Young professionals here in Iowa can help out by participating and raising awareness! You can organize a team with your family, friends, or from work and raise money to support someone close who diabetes or to honor the memory of someone who died from this disease. Celebrate National Hunting and Fishing week this weekend by bringing the entire family for a fun day discovering new and exciting ways to enjoy Iowa’s outdoors. Its an outdoor experience where visitors fish, shoot, canoe, see and touch wildlife, and learn about recreation in the great outdoors.

| Reggie’s Sleepout 2010
Reggie’s Sleepout 2010 will be held on Saturday, October 16th at Drake Stadium. This will be our 5th year hosting the event at Drake and wanted to work to extend our to you all in hopes of recruiting more Community Participants to the Sleepout. Although this event is far off, I am hopeful we can get it onto a Calendar of Events!
